Persona 4 Revival Gets a New “Shadow” Trailer

Persona 4 Revival Gets a New “Shadow” Trailer

Atlus has released a new trailer for Persona 4 Revival, giving players another look at the darker side of the upcoming remake. The trailer, simply called “Shadow,” appeared on October 3 and focuses on one of the central ideas behind Persona 4: the strange creatures that represent parts of a person's personality they may not want to accept.

The new footage returns to Inaba, the quiet Japanese town where the story begins. A series of unusual murders breaks the town's peaceful atmosphere, while rumors start spreading about the mysterious Midnight Channel. The protagonist and his classmates eventually discover that these events are connected to another world filled with Shadows.

For newcomers, this is important because Shadows are much more than ordinary enemies. Persona 4 uses them to explore fear, identity, insecurity and the difference between the person someone shows to the world and the feelings they try to hide. Characters often have to confront uncomfortable versions of themselves before they can awaken their Personas.

The trailer does not reveal a release date. Persona 4 Revival is currently planned for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. That means the biggest unanswered question remains when Atlus intends to release it.

The project is particularly interesting because Persona 4 has remained one of Atlus's most popular RPGs despite originally launching on PlayStation 2 back in 2008. Persona 4 Golden later expanded the game and helped introduce it to a much larger audience through releases on modern platforms.

After the success of Persona 3 Reload, expectations for another modern Persona remake are naturally high. The challenge for Atlus will be preserving the unusual atmosphere and character-driven storytelling of the original while modernizing combat, graphics and exploration.

Today's trailer does not answer all those questions, but it confirms that Atlus is beginning to show more of the remake's core story and themes.
